36 Views of Coquet Island, 16th May - 3rd June
Curated by Allan Sutherland this community exhibition began way back in the strange Covid lockdown days
Allan says
" I started to learn Japanese and immersed myself in Japanese culture : writing, art, music, ceramics, calligraphy, language, culture, fashion. This research took me to the Japanese artist Hokusai and his 36 Views of Mount Fuji. On daily lockdown walks along the coastline, I gazed at the sea and began to wonder how 36 Views of Coquet Island might look - thinking of a View as being an idea, opinion, poem or memory as well as a visual representation. I began to consider Coquet island as being of equivalent importance to Mt Fuji having its own cultural, spiritual and visual significance for Amble and this part of the Northumberland coastline.
Local artists, writers, musicians and researchers have co created 36 Views of Coquet Island each bringing their unique perspective
