Women on Air - A Lifelong Love Affair with radio
Friday 24th May 6.15 pm - 7.30pm
Women on Air - a lifelong love affair with radio
It’s Radio Caroline in person
A fantastic talk from a feminist perspective
Caroline Mitchell is Professor of Radio & Participation - University of Sunderland
This is a personal reflection on 45 years of listening to, working in, teaching about and researching, all things radio.
From setting up Fem FM, the first women's radio station in the UK to researching how coastal communities can use 'sonic archeology' to document sounds and stories of their community. Caroline will explain how radio has shaped her personal and professional life and taken her on many adventures. She will outline her 'radio history' which has taken her from listening to Radio Caroline from the east coast of England in the 60's, broadcasting on 'Radio Avalon' at the Glastonbury Festival in the 1980s to producing podcasts including 'Rebel Women of Sunderland' podcast launched this year.
If you are interested in Listening communities then this is a must and the talk will conclude with questions and sharing of radio experiences
