After their sellout listening room concert last year we welcome back The Grand Assembly with more grand northern tunes for your listening pleasure.
Expect old and new music with a connection to Northern England: lively dance music, soulful slow airs and stately marches, all presented in thoughtful and compelling arrangements with their roots firmly in the musical traditions of the Borders region. Featuring both of the region’s own bagpipes, experience the lyricism and precision of the Northumbrian small pipes as well as the evocative, hauntingly beautiful sound of the border pipes, woven with fiddle, wooden flute, whistles, bouzouki and good humour.
In their Grand style, the Assembly are presenting the first performance of Iain’s new tune Dry Water, dedicated to Dry Water Arts Centre.
The Grand Assembly are: Iain Gelston (border bagpipes, Northumbrian small pipes, bouzouki); Rachael Hales (fiddle) and Trish Winter (wooden flute and whistles).
