Women of the Woodbine
A celebration of female friendship and creativity. Because women get things done!
Friendship and sharing underpin the Women Of The Woodbine Group. The group began several months ago, meeting in a local house around cups of tea. The first meetings allowed us to better know each other, to ask the questions we had always wanted to ask and to share our hopes and aspirations.
We discussed everything……racial stereotypes, religion, clothes, hair, heritage, family, politics, shoes and favourite biscuits. Anything and everything could be and was discussed. This sharing and celebration of our sisterhood has strengthened and enriched all our lives. Importantly it has given confidence and a mutual support system enabling the group to develop their ideas.
The WOW group are now collaborating on the organisation of a whole school sponsored work “The Penguin Parade”. They have researched and prepared all the source materials and are delivering penguin themed workshops throughout the whole school.
It was wonderful to watch them teaching yesterday, teaching in the very best of ways, from the heart and with a desire and commitment to make a positive change for our community.
“She is a friend of mind. She gather me
The pieces I am, she gather them and give them back to me in all the right order.
It's good, you know, when you got a woman who is a friend of your mind.”
