Songs of the Afro-Cuban Orishas, Sunday 18th May
Songs of the Afro-Cuban Orishas, Sunday 18th May
Come along and experience the centuries-old songs for the Afro-Cuban deities, The Orishas
Over many decades the music from the Afro-Cuban culture of Santeria has had huge influences on the popular musics of the island and on Latin music generally.
Join Adam, Richard and Brendan to learn more about these incredible call and response songs sung in the old Yoruban language and accompanied by the 3 Bata drums.
No experience necessary.
Adam, Richard and Brendan have been studying this music in depth within the UK for several years now.
They find themselves in the unusual position of still being students of the music, whilst also being (to the best of their knowledge) the most experienced musicians of the genre within our north-east region.
Through this workshop they hope to share their love of these songs and rhythms and also widen the circle of interest in this wonderful music.
Sunday 18th May
