METHOD
Decide on the images / patterns / pictures you are going to put on your jars that represent the story/myth/legend you are illustrating
Cut a piece of paper the same height as your jar
Wrap your piece of paper around the jar and then mark where it overlaps
Cut the extra paper off
Plan out your design on the paper
Put the paper design side out inside the jar so that you can see your design through the jar
Cut out or tear tissue paper for your design
Water down your glue a little – it shouldn’t be too thick
Paint a layer of glue evenly over the glass jar, you can do parts of the jar or the whole jar either is ok
Stick your first bit of tissue paper onto the jar and then paint the watered down glue thinly over the top before adding another piece of tissue that overlaps
Continue this process until your jar is covered and give it a final coat of glue
Don’t put too many layers of tissue on and use a mix of light and dark colours or it won’t show the light through
Leave to dry and it will have a stained glass effect
Light up your glass lantern with a tea light or an LED candle or torch
Place your jar in your window or on the doorstep – they work really well as a collection so you could make a few
Don’t forget to send us photos - we’d love to see them!
